Before we get started, I offer a free mini phone session (about 30 minutes) to talk through what you’re looking for from therapy and the type of support I provide. In that session, we get a sense of how your needs might fit with my scope of practice (the types of needs I can support based on my training and experience).
I offer half sessions at 25min, full sessions at 50min and extended sessions. The cost of sessions are pro-rated for time based on my current fee.
Any email, phone or other support between sessions that takes more than 15 minutes of my time would be charged at my hourly rate.
payment
Payment is made by etransfer before session and after session, I email you a receipt that you can submit to your insurance provider (if you have coverage for Psychotherapy sessions with a Registered Social Worker).
cancellations and lateness
Out of respect for your time, I make every effort to start sessions on time.
Out of respect for my time and the other people I support, I require 48 hours notice for cancellations so I can offer that session time to someone else. If you do not provide 48 hours notice, the full fee for that session is charged. Note: insurance providers will likely not cover cancellation fees.
If you arrive late for session, I do my best to reach you. Even if session time is shorter, the full fee is still charged and the original end time will still apply. If you do not arrive for a session within 20min, the session will not occur (due to time constraints) and the full fee will be charged.
health insurance coverage
As a Registered Social Worker I can provide psychotherapy services, and my services are covered by some insurance providers. If you have extended health benefits through work and/or school, I encourage you to contact your insurance provider to find out if your plan covers “social work” or “psychotherapy”. I encourage you to find out what per-session or per-hour rate they cover, and any yearly limit to your coverage.
If you have coverage that includes my services, you would provide payment to me (as above), and then you submit the receipt to your insurance company.
post-secondary accessibility services
I encourage post-secondary students with mental health diagnoses to register with accessibility services to access accommodations like increased time for tests and extensions on assignments.
Post-secondary students getting OSAP may also be eligible for the Ontario Bursary for Students with Disabilities which can cover up to $2000 towards private practice therapy. Speak to accessibility services for more info.
federal tax credit for medical expenses
Sessions with Registered Social Workers are considered a medical expense that can be claimed on your taxes. For more information about the specifics, check out: http://www.cra.gc.ca/medical
